Textile artist

Welcome to my website

Judy FairlessI have been working with textiles in one form or another since my teens and today I see myself as a textile artist. After many years teaching both patchwork and embroidery at City & Guilds level I now have more time to pursue my own interests.

My passion is in contemporary quilting and I am a member of Contemporary Quilt, a specialist group of the Quilters Guild of the British Isles. Each year we undertake a monthly challenge to produce a small quilt (see my Journal Quilt Series) and also an annual challenge to produce a quilt to a set theme. These quilts are widely exhibited. See more on our website www.contemporaryquilt.org.uk

I also belong to Cwilt Cymru, a group of quilters with a shared Welsh heritage or else living in Wales. Our recent exhibition entitled Connection was very well received and we have just completed a new body of work, Cynefin. See more on our blog https://cwiltcymru.wordpress.com

I still hold an interest in embroidery and as such am a long-standing member of the Embroiderers Guild.

I like to challenge myself to work with unusual fabrics and have in the past worked with leather, plastic, paper, Evolon and other manmade textiles, as well as the more expected cotton and silk of the traditional patchworker.

I am happy to talk to local groups about my work. Please go to my Talks and Contacts pages for more information.
